Public Orthodoxy

January 30, 2025 – The Orthodox Christian Studies Center at Fordham University has officially launched the Ukrainian version of Public Orthodoxy, its leading online publication dedicated to open and scholarly discussions on Orthodox Christianity and contemporary issues.

This initiative aims to provide Ukrainian readers with access to independent, critical perspectives in their native language, reinforcing Public Orthodoxy’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.

Since its establishment, Public Orthodoxy has played a vital role in analyzing the complex relationships between church, state, and society, particularly in regions where Orthodox Christianity holds significant influence. Recognizing the profound impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the launch of the Ukrainian version demonstrates a strong commitment to amplifying voices that address the challenges facing the Orthodox world today.

Dr. George Demacopoulos, co-director of the Orthodox Christian Studies Center, emphasized the importance of this step:

“Since the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Public Orthodoxy has become a crucial platform for independent and scholarly analysis of the church-state dynamic in this region. We deeply appreciate our Ukrainian authors and readers for their engagement and contributions. We are proud to launch Public Orthodoxy in Ukrainian to further support this community and provide greater access to critical perspectives in their native language.”

Beyond its academic scope, the Ukrainian version of Public Orthodoxy seeks to foster dialogue and reflection amid the challenges faced by Orthodox Christians worldwide. Dr. Aristotle Papanikolaou, co-director of the Center, highlighted the publication’s role in promoting a more inclusive and peaceful vision of Orthodox Christianity:

“Public Orthodoxy has been at the forefront of countering divisive narratives and advocating for unity in the Orthodox world. By launching the Ukrainian version, we reaffirm our dedication to fostering dialogue and understanding, particularly in times of conflict and misinformation.”

Through its new Ukrainian platform, Public Orthodoxy invites Ukrainian readers to engage with a broad range of articles exploring theology, ethics, politics, and culture through the lens of Orthodox Christianity. The initiative aims to strengthen connections with the Ukrainian audience and encourage participation in global discussions on Orthodoxy.
